Trade name: Analerge

Structure: Each tablet contains 4 mg chlorpheniramine maleate.

Auxiliary components: lactose, talc, magnesium stearate, sodium benzoate.

Pharmacological properties: Chlorpheniramine maleate is a phenothiazine derivative with excellent antihistamine and sedative properties; is an antagonist of HI receptors and, thus, acts on capillaries, reducing the permeability of their walls, rapidly narrowing the lumen of blood vessels and relieves swelling. Relieves hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the nasal passages, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx. Possesses pronounced local anesthetic properties.

Indications: symptomatic control of all allergic conditions, including urticaria, hay fever, food and drug allergies, insect bites, vasomotor rhinitis, and angioedema.

Mode of application: Inside, after eating. Adults: 4mg every

hours, maximum dose: 24mg daily.

For children

from 3 to 5 years — 1 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum dose: 6 mg per day or as directed by a doctor.

From 6 to 12 years old — 2 mg in 4-6 hours. Maximum dose: 12 mg per day.

In older adults, the dosage regimen is the same as in adults, but they may be prone to confusional psychosis and other neurological effects.

Contraindications: should not be taken by children under 2 years of age.

Up to 6 years old — without medical supervision. Hypersensitivity to antihistamines.

Patients on treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors within the previous 14 days.

Precautions: Alcohol, antidepressants can enhance the sedative effect of chlorpheniramine. Use with caution in: epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention, glaucoma, severe liver disease, bronchitis, thyrotoxicosis, increased intraocular pressure, severe hypertension or cardiovascular diseases and bronchial asthma. Patients with rare hereditary problems of lactose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication.

Pregnancy and lactation: The safety of use during pregnancy has not been established. Use when needed and if potential benefit outweighs potential risks to the fetus. Use during the 3rd trimester may cause reactions in neonates or premature infants. Small amounts of antihistamines are excreted in breast milk. Use in nursing mothers is not recommended due to the risk of side effects in the infant. Antihistamines can suppress lactation.

Side effects: Rarely — palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmia, hypotension, hemolytic anemia, headaches, tinnitus, increased viscosity of bronchial secretions, chest tightness, muscle weakness, hypersensitivity reactions, photosensitivity and skin reactions such as urticaria, hepatitis (jaundice), depression … Sedation from mild drowsiness to deep sleep. Sometimes — blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia and anorexia; dry mouth, urinary retention.

Impact on ability to drive: Chlorpheniramine causes drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision and impaired motor coordination. Therefore, patients are advised not to drive or operate a car while taking chlorpheniramine tablets.
